• α-Mangostin was found to be a potent inhibitor of acid production by S. mutans UA 159, active against mem brane enzymes, including the F(H+)-ATPase and the phosphoenolpyruvate – sugar phosphotransferase system. Specifically cariogenic oral bacteria [1]..
• Due to their microbicidal potential, modified α-mangostin derivatives could be utilized as active anti-microbial agents in materials for the biomedical and food industry [2].
• The obtained results suggest that α-mangostin targets S. epidermidis through multifarious mechanisms, and especially prompts that loss of cytoplasmic membrane integrity leads to rapid onset of bactericidal activity [3].
